Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVPY)

 
Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVPY) is a scholarship program funded by the Department of Science and Technology of the Government of India, aimed at encouraging students to take up research careers in the areas of basic sciences, engineering and medicine. It offers scholarship and contingency grants up to the pre-Ph.D. level to selected students. Started in 1999, it is administered by the Indian Institute of Science.The Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVPY) is an on-going National Program of Fellowships in Basic Sciences, initiated and funded by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, to attract exceptionally and highly motivated students for pursuing basic science courses and research career in science.
The objectives of the program are to identify students with talent and aptitude for research; help them realize their potential in their studies; encourage them to take up research careers in Science, and ensure the growth of the best scientific minds for research and development in the country.
The advertisement for the KVPY Fellowship appears in all the national dailies normally on the Technology Day (May 11) and the Second Sunday of July every year.
The selection of students is made from those studying in XI standard to 1st year in any undergraduate Program in Basic Sciences namely B.Sc./B.S./B.Stat./B.Math./Int. M.Sc./M.S. in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology having aptitude for scientific research. Special groups / committees are set up at IISc, to screen the applications and conduct an aptitude test at various centres in the country. Based on the performance in the aptitude test, short-listed students are called for an interview which is the final stage of the selection procedure. For receiving a fellowship, both aptitude test and interview marks are considered.
The merit list is based on 75% weight-age for Aptitude Test marks and 25% weight-age for the interview marks in the streams SA, SB and SX. SA can be written by students studying in class 11. SX can be written by students studying in class 12.
In year 2014, 1200 students qualified for KVPY scholarship out of about one lakh students who appeared for the examination

IIT (Indian Institute of Technology)

The Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) are a group of autonomous public engineering and management institutes of India. The IITs are governed by the Institutes of Technology Act, 1961 which has declared them as "institutions of national importance", and lays down their powers, duties, framework for governance etc..The Institutes of Technology Act, 1961 lists sixteen institutes located at Bhubaneswar, Chennai, Delhi, Gandhinagar, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Indore, Jodhpur, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Mandi, Mumbai, Patna, Ropar, Roorkee and Varanasi. Each IIT is an autonomous institution, linked to the others through a common IIT Council, which oversees their administration. The IITs award degrees starting from B.Tech to Ph.D.
The IITs have a common admission process for undergraduate admissions. It was based on IIT-JEE, replaced by Joint Entrance Examination in 2013. The graduate level program that awards M. Tech. degree in engineering is administered by the older IITs (Kharagpur, Bombay, Madras, Kanpur, Delhi, Roorkee, Varanasi, Guwahati). M.Tech. admission decisions are made on the basis of Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE). In addition to B. Tech and M. Tech programs IITs also award other graduate degrees such as M.Sc. in Engineering, Maths, Physics and Chemistry, MBA, PhD and more. Admission to these programs are through Common Admission Test (CAT), Joint Admission Test to M.Sc. (JAM) and Common Entrance Examination for Design (CEED).
IIT alumni have achieved success in a variety of professions. IITs are Institutes of National Importance established through special acts of Indian Parliament.

How To Become An IAS Officer

Procedure to become IAS officer after 12th

An IAS officer is one of the most respectable positions in the society. Candidates who wish to become an IAS officer have to appear and clear the Civil Service Exam conducted by UPSC. Discussed below is the step by step process to become IAS officer after higher secondary.

Obtain a Bachelor Degree

After higher secondary, candidates who wish to become IAS officer are required to obtain graduation in any discipline from a UGC recognized university. Bachelor degree is the minimum qualification required to apply for the civil service exam. There is no minimum percentage required to be eligible to this exam. Final year candidates are also eligible to apply for this exam.

Qualify the Civil Service Exam

The all India combined competitive examination for Civil Service comprises of two stages. They are
  •     Preliminary Examination
  •     Main Examination

Preliminary examination is usually conducted in the month of May/ June every year. This exam will be in objective type format. The exam consists of two papers, general studies and an optional subject. There will be questions for 150 marks from general section and 300 marks from optional subject. Candidates can choose their optional subject from the list given below.

The medium of instructions will be in English and in Hindi. Candidates can expect questions in the optional paper from the degree level syllabus. Time limit of each paper is two hours. Candidates who have cleared the preliminary examination are eligible for the main exam.

Clear the Main Examination

Main examination is of descriptive type. It consists of nine papers. Time duration for each paper is three hours. It comprises of the following papers.
  •     One Indian Language for 300 marks
  •     English for 300 marks
  •     General Essay for 300 marks
  •     General Studies of 300 marks
  •     Any two optional papers for 300 marks each
  •     Personal Interview

The final selection for Indian Administrative Service is carried out on the basis of personal interview. Usually the final interview is conducted in the month of April/ May every year. Candidates can expect questions on matters of general interest. The questions are designed to measure the suitability as well as the mental calibre of the candidates. Apart from this candidates will have to go for a medical test as part of selection procedure. Once selected, all candidates are required to undergo compulsory foundation training.
